Primary ION Propulsion

 

 

 

Primary Ion Drives, are clustered ION thrusters that are nacelled, which dramatically increase the capabilities of the technology type.

ION Thrusters themselves are generally used for satellite maneuvering, and can range from small 50 watt thrusters through very large units above 2.5kw each.

But when clustered, that increases thrust substantially. Add to that nacelling the cluster, so chamber pressure increases and using the geometry of the ion thruster streams, to interest and become a single propulsion unit, increases the thrust overall apx 50% on top of the sum of the initial thrusters.

This results in propulsion capabilities that allows the space sector to build and operate actual space craft and reducing trip times throughout the solar system, to within weeks. Whether it be just hours to reach the moon, 2 weeks on average to reach Mars, Pluto within 3 Weeks, etc.

This technology renders nuclear propulsion obsolete entirely, as they are slow, high cost, and will not provide any substantial advancement in capabilities.

The entire solar system becomes accessible in a short amount of time, without the need for sling shot orbiting maneuvering. The entire solar system becomes a straight line, A to B transport.  1st half of the trip is acceleration, while the second half of the trip is deceleration.  Which then also offers low gravity capabilities for human habitation as well.

Ion Drives require substantial power to operate, plus the fuel which is usually Iodine or Xenon.  But as seen below, that is relatively straight forward.

Additionally,  this technology allows for interstellar capabilities at today's technology levels. As seen below with Interstellar 1, the concept is a deep space craft for up to 28 crew for interstellar capabilities, which can accelerate comforting to close to 1/2 the speed of light over several months.

1G acceleration, could accelerate to the speed of light within 8 months, which is 672 million mph.

This means any vehicle designed with this propulsion, around 1G acceleration could reach Proxima B, ie Alpha Centauri system, our nearest neighboring solar system, within apx 5 years total trip time.

Currently, it would take over 1,000 years to reach.
