Hornet PAV eVTOL was originally designed as a Personal Air Vehicle entered into Go Fly Prize, sponsored by Boeing.  It may be a jet pack looking aircraft but don't let that fool you. It is simply put, a horizontally configured Multi Rotor ultralight helicopter. Similar to a Chinook if it flew side ways.

Hornet is a very high performance 1 passenger eVTOL personal air vehicle.  Hornet can fly at extreme attitude, banking, turns, and stop on a dime. Capable of easy cruising up to 55 kts in FAR 103 regulated regions, it's a nice and easy.

 

But if it is not FAR 103, it can cruise along at well over 100 kts shredding through the skies, in between buildings above the streets and whip around and land on a dime.  This personal air vehicle is purpose built for fun, and to accomplish a job for those in need of rapid vtol capabilities for urban environments.

If you are afraid of heights, we wouldn't recomend it. You look down and there's nothing there between you and the ground.

Another option for the Hornet, is unmanned flight, ie UAV capable.  It can be flown by radio control, or gps autopilot.  This open up more possibilities included rescue and payload delivery.

Controls for this aircraft are meant to be autonomous and built around reverse engineered rc drone technologies, so the pilot does not need to fly it manually if the pilot just wanted to fly via auto pilot. But the pilot can also fly the aircraft manually via dual control sticks for the left and right hand.  Additionally, immense stabilization is built into this aircraft and can be dialed up and down, depending on the pilot's own preferences.

Overall, anyone familiar with flight, can safely operate the Hornet PAV within only a few hours of safety training.


The airframe is constructed of fireproof composite resistant up to 2,500F and very strong.  But more important if a lithium pack were to catch fire, it gives the pilot plenty of time to land safely and exit the vehicle.

Rotor's are able to deliver up to 850 LBS of static thrust at take off and a maximum "safe" take off weight of  640 LBS, this aircraft will take off easily, with plenty of room to breath. The rotors are not props, but variable pitch 7 blade rotors with IO Aircraft QUIET TECH© built in. So these rotors are very quiet.

As with anyone concerned about flight, the safety features are immense. 

  • If there is a motor failure, each nacelle has 2 motors, so the other motor will take up the load of the failed motor providing several minutes to land safely..

  • If catastrophic failure occurs, it is also equipped a BRS (Ballistic Recovery System), which can deploy deploy and the entire aircraft will come down safely.

  • The version with skids, the skids are designed to crumple on impact of 5 G's, so even if it is a hard impact, the pilot can walk away with no more then a few scratches and bruises.

Overall, every contingency is designed into this aircraft.
